Open Call: IFF Innovate - the mindful snack challenge
Want to partner with leading food ingredients company IFF on developing the future of snacking?
Food & Bio Cluster Denmark has partnered with the global food ingredient company IFF to co-develop the snack of the future. The IFF Innovate – The Mindful Snack Challenge is now live, and all Nordic food and food ingredient companies are invited to participate to get the opportunity to collaborate with IFF.
The snacking and on-the-go category is rapidly evolving. Increasing health consciousness among consumers is driving demand for snacks with reduced salt and sugar but enriched with functional ingredients.
Our busy lifestyles and the need for on-the-go solutions are propelling innovation in both sweet and savory snacks.Moreover, sustainability is becoming a fundamental standard in the market, influencing product development and consumer preferences.
Through this new partnership, IFF and Food & Bio Cluster Denmark aim to find startups and food companies that can contribute to developing the future snack in response to these market trends and demands.
Focus on Texture, Taste, Functionality, and Health
The IFF Innovate – The Mindful Snack Challenge seeks new ingredients, processes, and more from Nordic food companies that, in collaboration with IFF, can develop new flavor and texture combinations for the healthy snacks of the future.
The call, open until September 2, 2024, targets all Nordic producers of innovative food ingredients and processes who wish to bring their solutions to market in collaboration with IFF.

What are we looking for?
To be considered for the program, your process, ingredient, or product must comply with current food regulatory standards, be new to the market, scalable, and contribute to the development of a healthier snacking product. Furthermore, you need to be able to join the IFF Innovate Pitch Day on the 14th of October held in the IFF Brabrand Campus in Aarhus, Denmark.
Solutions within enzymes, cultures, probiotics, sweeteners, emulsifiers, proteins, flavours are among the areas of interest.
I have applied, now what?
After the application deadline, Food & Bio Cluster Denmark will initiate a screening of applicants and select the companies that will be invited to participate in the program. Please see important dates below.
- 2nd of July: The call for IFF Innovate – The Mindful Snacking Experience is open
- 2nd of September: Deadline for application
- 23rd of September: Finalists are selected
- 30th of September: Webinar – Get ready for the IFF Innovate Pitch Day
- 14th of October: IFF Innovate Pitch Day at IFF – Brabrand Campus in Aarhus.
After the IFF Innovate Pitch Day, selected startups will be invited to start up and R&D collaboration with in IFF in 2025.

Flavors and seasonings are customized according to the needs and embedded with technologies from our Re-Imagine Innovation Programs (e.g., modulation of sweet/salt, increased intensity, and masking off-notes for alternative proteins).
