Development of Raman microtiter plate reader for high throughput quantification of biochemicals
Real-time quantification of metabolites and products is vital for optimizing bioproduction processes and ensuring success. Current methods are often slow and lack specificity, creating challenges for industrial applications. This project will address these issues by developing a high-throughput Raman-based microtiter plate reader (MTP), enabling faster and more precise process monitoring.

From low-throughput to high-throughput
HPLC and LC MS are commonly used to monitor metabolites and products but sample preparation and analysis time per sample are highly time consuming. This lack of real time data limits the quick perturbations that could reduce build up of unwanted metabolites and potentially leading to production loss.
Test kits and probes, though quicker, often lack precision and durability, making them unreliable alternatives.
To solve these challenges, Lightnovo ApS and Cysbio ApS are collaborating to develop a Raman MTP for rapid and high-throughput quantification, streamlining bioproduction monitoring.
Development of Raman microtiter plate reader
The Raman method utilizes the unique spectra of each molecule for accurate quantification. In bioproduction, samples are centrifuged to remove biomass, allowing direct analysis of the supernatant with the Raman MTP.
This project will develop software for fermentation and screening applications. Cysbio will incorporate Raman analysis into their ongoing fermentation, biotransformation, and screening processes. The data collected will be used to optimize hardware and train the analysis software, ultimately resulting in a refined Raman-based microtiter plate reader for bioproduction monitoring.
